Detail of a wall stencil by Moses Eaton, Jr. (1796-1886), circa 1820-1840. Brick Store Museum Collection.

This stenciling was done by itinerant artist Moses Eaton, Jr. (1796-1886) on the interior walls of a house in the Alewive district of Kennebunk, Maine, built by David Thompson in 1750. The stenciling dates to circa 1820-1840. Kennebunk antiquarian and architect William E. Barry (1846-1932) salvaged from the home two sections of wall totaling some 60 square feet--plaster, slats and all!--and these today are in the collections of the Brick Store Museum.
