Barbara Noyes Crede
Barbara Noyes Crede, 80, of Newington, CT, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and passionate genealogist, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2023. She was the beloved wife of George J. Crede, Jr. for the bast 60 years. Born on April 12, 1943, in Portsmouth, NH, she was the daughter of Paul and Grace (Smith) Noyes and loved growing up in Kennebunk. Barbara and George raised their daughter Dawn in Westwood, NJ, before relocating to Newington.
Barbara served as a Radioman in the WAVES, the female branch of the Navy, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, stationed at the Brunswick Naval Air Station. She met her husband George during this time. After her military service, Barbara worked in various banks and manufacturing companies before retiring to Connecticut.
A dedicated volunteer, Barbara was actively involved in veteran and genealogy organizations. She played a significant role in starting the Wreaths Across America program at the American Legion Post 117 in Newington. Barbara and George shared a passion for genealogy and conducted extensive research throughout the years. Barbara was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and served as Regent of the Willard Wells Stanley Chapter.
Barbara leaves her daughter Dawn Murphy and her husband John of Austin, TX, and grandchildren Caroline Murphy and her fiancé Evan Didisheim and Patrick Murphy. She also leaves her sister Paula Singer of Lyman, ME, and her family. Barbara will be remembered for her love of family, her commitment to community, and her unwavering spirit.
