Here Comes the Kennebunk Heritage Festival!
The Brick Store Museum was founded by American artist Edith Cleaves Barry in 1936 to celebrate the area’s history, art and culture. The Museum, open year-round, completes its mission through changing exhibitions of history and art; educational programming and field trips; special events; tours; and activities to bring awareness to this area’s rich history.
This July, the Museum is kicking off its newest annual celebration: the Kennebunk Heritage & Culture Festival. The Festival will focus on different parts of Kennebunk’s wealth of history, art and culture and will run over four days, from Thursday, July 11th through Sunday, July 14th, with multiple events each day.
- Collections Storage Tour, Thursday, July 11 at 12pm. Tour through thousands of years of history and 70,000+ artifacts as you explore the Museum’s behind-the-scenes storage areas. The tour lasts about an hour, and uses stairs and small spaces. Tickets: $12 per person, $5 for Members.
- President’s Lobster Bake Kick-Off Celebration, Thursday, July 11 at 6pm. Enjoy a Maine feast underneath a tent in the Museum’s courtyard! Attendees will be the first to view a special fashion exhibition by Decontie & Brown, a contemporary Wabanaki haute couture fashion house based in Bar Harbor, Maine. The special exhibition will continue through the weekend, thanks to Home & Away Gallery in Kennebunkport. Tickets limited: $65 per person.
- Art Night!, Friday, July 12 from 5pm – 8pm. The evening event features free admission to the Museum’s Galleries, a free art workshop for children and adults by All Hands Collective; and the opening of Ken Fellows’ Bauman Family Gallery contemporary art show.
- Kennebunk Field Day, Saturday, July 13, 10am – 2pm. A free family field day on Parsons Field will feature vendors, artists, and local organizations sharing their work and contributions toward Kennebunk’s culture; families will also find activities, walking tours, exhibitions, historical games, and a Civil War reenactment happening on the field! Food trucks will offer picnic food to guests.
- Historic Garden Party, Saturday, July 13, 3pm – 5pm. Dress to the nines and join the Museum at Summer Street’s historic George Lord Little House, c. 1875, to enjoy a historic garden party with refreshments and tour of this unique and amazing private home. Tickets limited: $35 p/p, $30 for Members.
- The Kennebunk History Mystery Tour, Sunday, July 14, 1pm – 4pm. Start at the Museum to receive a map of eight secret locations around town. Set off with your travel party to discover the history of these eight places (some of which we drive by every day, but never stop!) as presented by Museum hosts at each location. Get your map stamped at each location, and return to the Museum to be entered into a raffle for prizes! Tickets: $10 per person
