The staff at the Brick Store Museum will select a piece of archival material relating to the history of the Kennebunk region. In the mail, you’ll receive a packet each month including a reproduction of the original letter, a transcription of its contents, and a “Context page” with a short history about the time period and subject of the piece.
History by Mail offers a year’s worth of monthly deliveries to your mailbox that might include items like a French & Indian War veteran’s letter home; a mother’s diary at sea in 1840; an accounting of the local fruit store in 1859; sights from a Civil War battlefield; and so many others from a collection that amasses nearly 30,000 archival materials related to Kennebunk. This History by Mail program is a new & exciting way to access historical records, hear voices from the past, and experience these documents for yourself! All for about $3 per month ($40 total).
